IEEE UK Student Branch Participates in SoutheastCon 2017

Fourteen students from the University of Kentucky College of Engineering traveled to Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) SoutheastCon 2017 in Charlotte, N.C. March 30 – April 2. Students participated in a variety of competitions: hardware competition, software competition, ethics competition, student paper competition, t-shirt design competition and website competition.

Doing Good: UK Students Create an App for That

University of Kentucky students devote more than 100,000 hours to service each year. Some students bust out their dance moves #FTK and some deliver meals through the UK Campus Kitchen. UK engineering students are making a difference in their own way — developing software and apps that help people do good.

NASCAR Driver Ben Rhodes Visits UK Solar Car & Formula Kentucky Teams

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Ben Rhodes visited the University of Kentucky campus on January 28, 2017 to meet with the UK Solar Car and Formula Kentucky racing teams. Rhodes, a Louisville native, even took a turn behind the wheel as the weather permitted taking the vehicles outside.

Lumpp To Receive Outstanding Materials Engineering Award From Purdue University

Janet Lumpp, professor of electrical and computer engineering and director of the First-Year Engineering program at the University of Kentucky College of Engineering, has been selected to receive one of three Outstanding Materials Engineer (OMSE) Awards from the School of Materials Engineering at Purdue University.

DoE GEARED Grant Awarded to ECE Professors Holloway & Liao

ECE Professors Dr. Larry Holloway and Dr. Yuan Liao have been awarded a grant entitled: “STEP/FEEDER: Strategic Expansion to Achieve GEARED Goals” from the Department of Energy’s GEARED (Grid Engineering for Accelerated Renewable Energy Deployment) program.

ECE Professors Adams, Lu and Young have been awarded a grant from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration entitled “Fast Computational Electromagnetic Methods for GEMINI”.

Dr. Thapliyal Receives Award for DSP from KS&EF

ECE Professor Dr. Himanshu Thapliyal has received an award from the Kentucky Science and Energy Foundation entitled “Energy-Efficient Digital Signal Processor Based on Reversible Nanomagnetic Logic”.

ONR Grant Award goes to Young and Adams

ECE faculty John Young and Rob Adams have received a three year award from the Office of Naval Research to study algorithms for the electromagnetic field modeling of Naval vessels.

Hastings Receives Award from DoE to Study Nanoscale Magnetic Materials

ECE faculty member J. Todd Hastings has received a new award from the Department of Energy to study nanoscale magnetic materials called artificial spin ices.

UK Solar Car Team Competes at American Solar Challenge

For the first time since 2010, the University of Kentucky Solar Car Team qualified for the American Solar Challenge (ASC) — a competition to design, build and drive solar-powered cars in a cross-country event.
